We set goals for health and fitness with the best of intentions, but often times we begin to slip up when things get challenging. It is easy for life to get in the way and make excuses about how busy we are with other important agenda items. If you find yourself in this predicament, challenge yourself to put just 5 minutes a day towards your goal.

For example, I had made a goal of being more mindful this year. With all the stresses of owning a small business, being a new parent, and juggling everything else life throws at me, I was feeling like I had dropped the ball on my goal. Instead of giving up all together, I recommitted myself to spending just 5 minutes a day towards mindfulness. If one day I only get to spend 4 minutes on mindfulness, that does not mean I failed, it just means that was the time I was able to carve out that day.

An example you might be dealing with: Perhaps you set a goal of having less hip pain this year. Maybe you have not put in the effort to perform your home exercises like you had intended because of other life responsibilities. Instead of thinking of your goals as unreachable, try putting just 5 minutes a day towards just one of your home exercises. It may seem like 5 minutes is not enough time to make any lasting changes, but it is! Once you start feeling a little bit better, you might be inspired to put 7 minutes towards your goal, then 10 minutes. Before you know it, you are completing your whole home exercise program and you are reaching your goals!
